We love animals, seriously. Our four legged friends are the happiest of friends and family members of Eleanor’s staff. We couldn’t imagine a world without the joyful licks, walks, and the fun times with our pets in our Nantucket Bike Basket Pet Carrier. This holiday season, we strongly recommend that you consider adopting an animal or donating to an animal rescue agency. Image Courtesy of ASPCA
One of our favorite animal rescue agencies is ASPCA, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Read more about them below.
Who ASPCA Is?
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. The organization was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, the ASPCA is recognized as a national animal welfare organization. They are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and proud to boast more than 1 million supporters across the country.
What They Do
As the first humane organization to be granted legal authority to investigate and make arrests for crimes against animals, ASOCA is wholly dedicated to fulfilling the ASPCA mission through nonviolent approaches. The organization provides local and national leadership in three key areas: caring for pet parents and pets, providing positive outcomes for at-risk animals and serving victims of animal cruelty. For more on their work in each of these areas, please visit their programs and services page.
The ASPCA’s mission, as stated by Henry Bergh in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”
The ASPCA’s wonderful adoptable dogs and adoptable cats would love to meet you! If you’re ready to add a furry family member, pay a visit to their clean, bright and welcoming facility, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Find out about pet adoption here.
For over 140 years, the ASPCA has worked tirelessly to end animal cruelty. From education and care to adoption and rescue, the ASPCA is making a life-changing difference for animals across America. Your support will mean so much to the animals right in your community. Donate to the ASPCA on your behalf or on anothers behalf during this holiday season. And thank you for making the ASPCA and the animals a part of your life!
